Justice in Zimbabwe

TransAfrica Forum stood in solidarity with the peoples of Zimbabwe as they fought against colonial rule and tyranny.  At that time, community organizations, trade unions and others worked together to forge a democracy that benefited all of Zimbabwe’s people.

The revolutionary movement in Zimbabwe was waged to provide the majority of Zimbabweans (Black Zimbabweans) with human, social, economic, cultural and political rights.  Central to this struggle was the issue of land and resource sovereignty.

Since the 1980s the dream of a new Zimbabwe has been deferred. Human rights abuses are rampant in Zimbabwe and the dream of democracy has been betrayed.  The government that was elected in 1980 has moved away from the basic tenets of that revolution in that it no longer governs in the best interest of the people.  This is due, in part, the to destabilization tactics of western nations and the former Apartheid government in South Africa as well as to the emerge of an imperialist political elite that have sought, since the 1990s, to consolidate and maintain power at the expense of Zimbabweans

Today TransAfrica Forum works to share with the African Diaspora and U.S. Americans the aspirations of the people of Southern Africa and demand that U.S. policy promote the needs all the people of Zimbabwe.
