WHAT: Mass protest against failed & corrupted elections in Zimbabwe
WHEN: Monday, July 21, 2008, 4:30pm
WHERE: Zimbabwe Embassy, 18th and New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C.
SPEAKERS:
TransAfrica Forum, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and other non-governmental organizations will, in an act of solidarity with Southern African civil society, deliver a ‘People’s Indictment’ to the government of the Zimbabwe charging them with crimes against the Zimbabwean people and undermining the democratic process in Zimbabwe. The people of Zimbabwe have been betrayed, by the government that claims to represent them.
The ‘People’s Indictment’ will list the names of the accused and will include charges of misconduct and murder as well as the demand for a temporary transitional government, a new constitution, economic reform, and a national truth and reconciliation process.
“Corruption, government mis-management, military excesses, and poor economic decisions have furthered the country's multiple social and economic crises. Today, after an illegitimate presidential run-off in June the country stands in economic ruin, wide spread political violence continues, and the only way forward is through a national dialogue and a political negotiation”, says Nicole Lee, Executive Director of TransAfrica Forum
Zimbabwe Embassy Protest Co-Sponsored by:
