Organizing trainings:

  • TransAfrica Forum provides personalized trainings for student groups and networks.  The trainings, which range from two hours to one-day, focus on developing organizing skills, as well as issue based workshops. Internships:

Speakers Bureau:

TransAfrica Forum staff are highly sought after speakers, able to address a range of topics.  Send a detailed email, indicating the date, time, topic, information on the size and knowledge level of your audience, information on the availability of audio visual equipment, along with the name of the speaker that you are requesting.

  • Nicole C. Lee, Executive Director.  Ms. Lee’s interests focus on human and political rights, particularly as they relate to Afro-descendent populations in  Brazil, Venezuela, Haiti, and Colombia. Ms. Lee has lived in Haiti and South Africa.
  • Imani Countess, Senior Director of Public Affairs.  Ms. Countess has traveled throughout Africa and its global Diaspora, and can address a variety of economic justice, human rights, and social justice issues.   She has written extensively on the current crisis in Zimbabwe.
  • Joia Jefferson Nuri, Chief of Staff and Communications Director.  Ms. Nuri communicates the organization’s message to communities around the world. Ms. Nuri has worked in various media outlets for close to thirty years. She is currently researching and writing a book on religion in America.
  • Tamara Gaw, In-House Counsel.  Ms. Gaw oversees the research and legislative strategy of TransAfrica Forum’s work on Vulture Funds, which are predatory hedge funds that purchase developing country debt and then use extreme measures to collect that debt.
  • Mwiza Munthali, Public Outreach Director.  Mr. Munthali oversees and develops the educational programs and represents TransAfrica Forum in many public forums, addressing a wide-range of Africa related issues
  • Nnenna Ozobia, Latin America and Caribbean Policy Director.  Ms. Ozobia’s area of focus is the impact of U.S. foreign policies on African descendents in the Latin America and Caribbean region. Ms. Ozobia has worked for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Institute of International Education, both where she worked to fight for human rights.
  • Nora Rasman, Program Associate.  Ms. Rasman’s work focuses on policy research. Prior to her time at TransAfrica Forum, Ms Rasman is a member of Groundwork Anti-Racism Collective, a Unitarian youth and young adult anti-racism organizing initiative.

We are a small organization with a limited budget, and must ask that your organization cover the complete costs of travel and accommodation for our speakers.  Additionally, we request honoraria of $250 - $1,500 (depending upon the speaker) made payable to TransAfrica Forum.
